A Guitar Lesson On How To easily Learn All The Notes On The Guitar
Mike at KillerGuitarTips again…
Hi all… This week I have a tip for beginners… as a budding killer guitar player you need to “eventually”, one way or another, get to know EVERY note on the fretboard!!!!
Don’t panic!!! Before you have an absolute fit and throw your guitar on the floor as I know you will find that statement really daunting, there is a really easy way for you to learn these notes!. Against contrary belief it’s not that hard when you know how.
So let’s have a look…
We have twelve musical notes in total using the letter A B C D E F G and the symbols # (sharp) or b (flat) to name them.
The most important thing to remember is that the letters are followed by a #(sharp) or b(flat) EXCEPT B and E.
For now we will try to keep things really simple and concentrate on using just the sharps (#) for now!
We will start will the note A played on the fifth open string as the fifth string is the start of the alphabet! Now as the open string is A then the 1st string is A# meaning the 2nd fret is B, 3rd fret C (remember there is no # after B) the 4th is C# so the fifth is D…
Carry on up the neck (remember there is no # after E) when you reach the twelfth fret you will be back at A again and the whole process starts again… Try practising this on every string, eventually you will be able to plop your finger on any note and be able to say what note that is instantly…
You will find this quite tedious at first but know one ever got anything worthwhile without a little work! You’ll have to trust me on this one as I know it pays off big time later on!
I always like to over deliver so this week I would like to give you not one tip but two! This next tip is also for all you beginners out there…

So let’s get going with another tip for beginners…
You are no doubt aware that you have six strings on your guitar. The first string is the thinest and the sixth string is the thickest. If you playa a string without holding it down against the fret we call this playing the string open. This means we obviously have six open strings and each string should be tuned to a note. On a guitar standard tuning of open strings is as follows:-
6th string is E 5th string is A 4th string is D 3rd string is G 2nd string is B 1st string is E
You must learn these strings of by heart as it is essential in your progression as a guitar player.
I hope you find these tips I am giving you each week useful and I will catch up with you next week.
Enjoy,
Cheers
Mike
