The Right Way To Paint Your Roof Tiles

The concrete tiles are a popular choice as far as rendering a strong cover to your roof is concerned. The fancy designs and colors of these concrete tiles is what sets them apart from other options available in the market.

Like the other home components, these concrete tiles too are subjected to constant wear and tear. Owing to their direct contact with the external agents such as air, water, dust and sunlight, they start to lose their shine very early. Hence it requires a good coating of a carefully chosen paint to restore the beauty of your roof tiles.

Before you start applying primer and paint on the surface of these tiles, make sure that you have cleaned off the area well. Remove the debris and dust sticking to the surface of these tiles first. Use a brush with fine bristles and a hot water bucket to carry out the cleaning work. Add a calculated amount of detergent powder in the bucket and dissolve it well. Rinse the tiles thoroughly such that no residue is left on the concrete tiles.

Visit a local hardware store and demand a fixed amount of acrylic exterior paint and respective primer. The primer eases off the surface of the tiles and hence, it should entirely be acrylic. Ask the salesperson to suggest a pure acrylic paint which doesn’t contain any other component such as latex.

The quantity of the primer and the paint to be bought is determined by the surface area of your roof. A suggestion from a professional can be derived on that front. The professional roofer would make the necessary calculations and determine the approximate amount of paint the tiles would require.

Bring home all the purchases and kick off the actual task of painting the tiles. Apply a thin layer of the acrylic primer on the surface of the tiles.

Let the primer dry overnight. Once primed has dried completely, paint each tile of the roof with one coating of the acrylic exterior paint bought. Once the initial coating of the paint has dried off, apply another coating and let it dry overnight.

Seal the surface with the application of a sealer compound. This sealer prevents the paint from chipping and cracking.
