Unclogging Your Bathroom Sink On Your Own
Bathroom sinks tend to clog often. This seems to be especially true because of the amount of hair that falls down inside it. Below are some tips you can follow to help you unclog your bathroom sink.
Use a plungers to unclog a minor problem. Try this first, since it doesn’t require you to take the sink apart. Add some water to the sink bowl, and then plunge.
Use a force cup plunger and plunge up and down three or four times before stopping. Lift the plunger up to see if the water has drained yet. If that solved the problem, run the faucet for a few minutes to see if it gets clogged again.
If the plunging doesn’t work, you will need to take out the sink trap. The part you will need to dismantle is the p-trap. Look for the tail pipe where the pipe dips low and curves.
The p-trap can be taken off with a pipe wrench. The best way to take off the p-trap is to unscrew the nuts on the side. Have a bucket handy to catch everything that comes out of the trap pipe when you take it off.
Your next step will be to clean out the p-trap. The reason it is clogged is because it is filled with grime and slush. Clean the inside of the p-trap with a cleaning brush and make sure that all the large pieces that are clogging the sink are taken out.
If you reattach the trap and the problem is not solved, the clog is likely further down the piping. You should use a snake, then, to unclog the sink. Use a sink snake or a drill snake that are less than 25 feet.
Run the snake downwards more than once to be sure the clog has been dislodged. You can rent snake equipment from a lot of plumbing companies. If the snake doesn’t do the job, repeat the process or call a professional plumber.
It’s important to have a trustworthy plumber to take care of your plumbing needs and air conditioning, and heating
