When Too Much Goodness can be bad: Draw the Line for Submissive Maids
Submissive maids are pleasers. Most employers would be satisfied to have a subservient maid since they are obedient and never complain. They can be a candidate for the perfect employee but given their constant yielding disposition they are also prone to abuse. To avoid this unwanted fate from happening, don’t allow them to do unrelated tasks and ensure their rights are protected.
No unjust non-related work tasks For every job, there is fitting description and limitation. A driver cannot be asked to repair computers, so are maids. Their job usually involves maintaining orderliness and cleanliness in the house. There may also be caretaking involved with the children or an elder, cooking and other household work related task. But there are some workloads beyond a maid’s ability.
Legal Working Rights Submissive maids despite never complaining also deserve to be treated like all other workers. If it is a live-in work with contract, they must be working at least 8-10 hours a day, provided with a spacious room that has enough air, clean bed and accessories and access to a bathroom. Three meals a day are also necessary not to mention respect of privacy. All boarding costs of the maid must be shouldered by the employer.
Maids can work all day, but they are entitled to take the night off. They must not be made as watch guards. They work 6 days a week, and a day is given to them for leisure or relaxation. Should they be allowed to work on an ungodly hour or on their day-off they must be compensated accordingly.
Submissive maids may be favorable but to the best employers. They cannot be handled to abusive ones where they are bound to suffer. Submissive means, never complaining, always yielding and able to fulfill everything. It may not be a virtue if it leads to problems for both the maid and the employer in the future.
